Circular Knitting for Socks

Description:
Are you dying to join the sock knitting craze but don't know how to knit in the round yet?  This class is designed just for you!  

We believe that there is great value in understanding how double pointed needles (dpn) work.  Most patterns are written for dpns and so this is the place to begin.  In week one we will teach you how to cast on and knit in the round using 4 needles.  You will use a fun dk weight sock yarn to practice.

Come back for week 2 and learn the basics of magic loop.  You will use the same yarn and a 32" Addi needle.

1 ball Knit Col or Encore DK weight sock yarn
Size 5 dpns and size 5 32" Addi



Crochet For Knitters

Fair Isle Fingerless Mitts

Students must be able to cable and knit in the round.

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran - 2 balls (1 might be enough, buy 2 and return the 2nd if it isn't needed)

Break free from patterns and rules while having fun playing with fiber.  Activities will include instruction in freeform knitting or crochet, needle felting, wet fulling, and embellishment with beads, buttons and found objects.

The class fee includes materials necessary for embellishment.  You only need to bring hooks, needles and your completed homework.  We will be working on a small purse.

Pattern for the bag is free and will be given with the yarn purchase.

Description:
New to knitting or coming back after many years?  Then this is the place to start.  Sheryl will gently guide you to success as you learn the basics of how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off.  At the end of this 2 week class you will have the basic skills to practice making scarves, washcloths, or squares that can later be stitched together to form a blanket.  Knitting is a great hobby and a relaxing treat you can give yourself.

Required Materials:
Worsted weight cotton yarn - Louisa Harding or Nashua Creative Focus Cotton for wash cloths.

Most any type of worsted weight yarn for scarves or squares.

Size 8 or 9 bamboo or wood knitting needles

Description:
Don't let mistakes keep you from knitting.  In this class you will learn how to recognize and correct the most common knitting mistakes.  A must class for all beginning & intermediate knitters.

Required Materials:
Cast on up to 20 stitches with worsted weight yarn and size 7 or 8 needles and work in stockinette for a few rows.  Leave work on needles for class.

Also bring your knitting accessories including a crochet hook.

Knitting in Color

Description:
Want to knit a Noni Bag, Christmas stocking or some other wonderfully colorful project?  Then this is the place to start.  Sony will guide you through intarsia and fair isle - the two main forms of adding color to knitting.

There is no class project, so bring small amounts of worsted weight yarn and appropriate sized needles.



Knitting in the Round

Description:
There are many ways to knit in the round, but in this class you will learn the two most common – circular and double pointed needles.  You will also learn to make I-Cord which is used frequently in knitting patterns.  Class project:  Felted Evening Bag or “Party Purse.”

1 hank Andes or similar worsted weight wool, 1 ball novelty yarn (optional),
1 pair size 10 16” circular needles & size 10 dpn.

La Mer is Sheryl's first published design and she will be teaching tunisian crochet and tunisian lace stitch so that you can make this beautiful silk scarf.

The yarn will be Tilli Tomas Pure and Simple Silk embellished with size 6 seed beads.  The yarn and beads will both be available prior to the class.

This pattern was designed to teach beginning lace knitting skills using size 4 needles and lace weight yarn.  You can choose from Alapca with a Twist Fino or Malabrigo lace weight yarn for your scarf.

You learned to use dpns but really feel like you are all thumbs?  Take heart – magic loop may be for you.  Magic Loop is a technique of using one very long circular needle to knit everything from socks to hats in the round.

Description:
Knowledge of traditional garment design and construction is invaluable for many different kinds of knitting.  Whether you knit for yourself, a child or others the skills gained in this class will translate to greater confidence in all your knitting endeavors.

You will knit a teddy bear sized sweater to learn how sweaters are made.  Gauge, shaping, seaming, and blocking are just a few of the topics Sony will cover in this 2 part class.

Students must be proficient in knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and basic pattern reading before taking this class.  If you have doubts Sheryl or Amy can guide you in your decision.

Socks are fun and addictive.  Using the traditional method of knitting socks on dpns, you will learn sock anatomy and be ready to knit socks for everyone you know.  After working the leg portion of the sock at home, you will come to class ready to turn the heel, work the gusset and begin the foot portion of the sock.  

You must know how to knit in the round on dpns to take this class.
